"Cubomedusae", an image of a box jellyfish, found in False Bay, Cape Town. Its transparent, cube-shaped bell, muliple "eyes" and tentacles allow it to navigate through dense kelp. Unlike most jellyfish that drift passively, box jellies swim with purpose, using their cube-shaped bells and advanced nervous systems to chase down prey like shrimp and small fish. When conditions are right, box jellies gather in dense swarms that may be difficult for divers to navigate. Although their tentacles do have a sharp sting to which some may react severely, they are not as lethal as their Australian box jelly cousins.
