Tuition, Training and Courses

Want insights as to how I photograph species and spaces?

I like to think my images are crafted, not taken, a mindset that shifts my photography from a mechanical light-grabbing, snapping process to a conscious, ethical, participatory and artistic experience. As a prior academic biologist, I believe I have a deep understanding subject behaviours and of allowing subjects control any interaction. To craft great photos requires an understanding, appreciation and respect of your subjects. In a nutshell, if you want decent pics of lions you need to think like a lion, understand they going to sleep all day, move between waterpoints and along roads at dawn and dusk.....

Photography for me is really all about light and the myraid of ways light behaves at different latitudes, times of day, depth, seasons and weather. An inspirational African wildlife photographer once commented to me how surprised he always was that people chase the sighting and not the lighting - that an image of a greatly lit springbok is so more powerful than that of a poorly lit leopard.

Its a patience game - frustrating at times and incredibly mindful at others.

I am more than happy to share my experience through tuition, courses, advice and consulation on how I achieve my imagery through a blend of technical expertise, ceativity, and ethical, patient and mindful photography.
