"Surge" shows that life on a kelp forest reef wall can sometimes be brutal. Pounded by ocean swells, these reefs are not always diveable. I often wonder how these delicate reef systems survive the South Atlantic swells and summer south easterly gales. Repeat dives over years suggests to me that they a pretty invincible to such natural forces. I remain way more concerned as to the effects that human forces - climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss - have on such systems. "Surge" is an image that to me embodies that natural resilience.
