I love this image I have titled "Against the Flow" of a single bigeye travelly swimming against the rest in a school of thousands. Interspersed with hundreds of small translucent glassie fish this huge school of trevally honestly took about five minutes to pass us off the deep walls of Richelieu Rock. Its size and grandeur is also showcased in my image "One Fish Two Fish" on these pages.

It is encounters such as these that hammer home to me the critical importance of the refugia povided by marine protected areas such as Richelieu Rock in Thailand, one of the world's great dive sites. As an oceanic pinnacle, Richelieu provides a glimpse of what overfished oceans should look like. Such protected areas are critical.
